Enoshima Sea Candle

Constructed to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Enoshima Electric Railway, this beloved lighthouse has become a regional icon since its completion in 2003.

On a clear day along the Shonan coast, the Enoshima Sea Candle does double duty as a control tower and observation deck as visitors are treated to a 360-degree panoramic view approximately 120 meters above sea level. And by view, we not only mean sandy beaches and shorelines. We’re talking about an unparalleled look at a distant Mount Fuji acting as the ultimate backdrop of Sagami Bay.

But on days less fortunate weather-wise, the tower is luckily divided into two levels: an open observation deck atop the lighthouse itself and an enclosed indoor level right below. Reaching the nearly 60-meter landmark is a matter of preference between scaling the spiral staircase or speeding up in an elevator.

After sundown, the tower is romantically lit up in white. An annual illumination event from mid-November to February sees the Sea Candle embellished in a string of lights – a great way to end an Enoshima outing on a winter night.
