American Village
A slice of the States in the heart of Okinawa.
If you’re looking for a place in Okinawa where you can shop, eat and drink ‘til you drop, this bustling and quirky American-style locale is sure to satisfy all your entertainment needs.
American Village is a large, U.S.-themed leisure complex located in Chatan, on the west coast of the main Okinawa island. It’s most easily recognized by the towering Ferris wheel at the entrance, which is beautifully lit up at night.
With well over 50 shopping spots, the area has a lot to offer visitors. This includes a range of American and Okinawan fashion stores, jewelry and souvenir shops, and a large department store, as well as karaoke and two big arcades. There’s also an art gallery, a museum and a cinema that shows both Japanese and English-language films.

The wide variety of bars, cafés and restaurants available will keep you fueled throughout the day. Naturally, most of the food is American-style, but you can also find cuisine from around the world and great craft beer from local breweries such as Chatan Harbor Brewery and Okinawa Brewing Company (and the occasional guest beer from American breweries).
The soft sand and calm shallow waters of Sunset Beach are also just a few minutes away. Known for its beautiful view of the sunset, the beach provides the perfect place to relax in between activities.
American Village is a really lively, colourful and friendly area, popular with tourists, expats and locals alike. Don’t be surprised if you come across a live music show or other street performance as you’re walking around. So whether you’re travelling solo, as a family, a couple, or with a group of friends, this fun-filled destination is definitely worth a visit.
Good to know: American Village can get crowded during the peak season, so avoid going on weekends and national holidays.
