Pokémon Cafe

Pika-pika-cuuute.

For many Poké fans, visiting the Pokémon Cafe is definitely something on your Tokyo bucket list. Adjacent to the Pokémon Center on the fifth floor of the Nihonbashi Takashimaya Department Store, due to its popularity it’s often fully booked so the online reservation system is basically a necessity if you want to visit.

Pokemon lunch set

Even the plates are Pikachu-inspired.

On the day of your reservation you’ll get a 90-minute slot to order, eat, take photos with the props and enjoy a visit from Pikachu himself. You can expect to participate in cheering and clapping for Pikachu to make an appearance, but in return he’ll come to your table to shake your paw and to have a quick selfie with him.

The cafe itself is great for kids and big fans of the franchise, you can stock up on memorabilia and souvenirs, including the option to pay extra to keep your Pokémon themed plate or glass.

Pokemon Cafe Nihombashi

Eating for the Insta…

The average — but admittedly very cute —dish costs around ¥1,700 and around ¥900 for a drink. They do offer special seasonal menus depending on the time of year, but there is also the regular set menu of Evie chicken burgers, Pikachu curries and Gengar grape smoothies. Tastewise the food is a little less special than what you’d expect for the price.

If you’re on the fence about deciding to visit, keep in mind that this place is about the novelty factor! It’s a good place to visit for fans, especially to browse the Pokémon Center next door which is complete with Pokémon styled yukata (summer kimono) and wall to ceiling plushies to buy. But perhaps it’s not the best place to visit if you’re a culinary expert and like your food to taste…of something. Sorry Brock! But we do recommend the hot latte – it’s pretty good and your Instagram story will look super kawaiiiiii.
