Hama-no-yu (Motomachi Hama Hot Spring)
A mixed-gender onsen on an island — just a few hours from Tokyo.
Technically a part of Tokyo, Oshima, which is part of the Izu Island chain, is a complete change in scenery with its emerald green foliage and beautiful beaches.
Izu Islands
It is not surprising that evening is the busiest time to visit this onsen. With a spectacular view of the golden sun sinking into the ocean, it is highly recommended to catch this one-of-a-kind sight.
Though this onsen allows men and women to bath together, visitors are required to wear bathing suits. This creates a comfortable environment for families and mix-gendered groups to enjoy the tranquil land and seascapes. Separate showering facilities are available for men and women as well.
Before you go
Though soap is provided, shampoo is not available so bringing your own toiletries is advised. In the unfortunate event that you forget your own bathing suit, it is possible to rent a bathing suit from the establishment so you won’t miss out on this experience.
With lots to do and see on this mysterious island, a nice relaxing soak will hit the spot.
