Shimbashi

Stopping at Shimbashi station means you’re at one of Tokyo’s main transit points. Connecting several different lines (JR, Tokyo Metro and Yurikamome) means that the station is a convenient spot to meet up or to take a break to grab some food and plan your next move.

The area itself is dotted with office headquarters for Japanese and foreign companies, such as the Dentsu Building, Nippon Television and Panasonic. The locale’s name literally translates to “new bridge station,” which is befitting because you’re more likely to pass through Shimbashi than anything else.

That being said, this stop is located directly south of Tokyo station and is within a 10- to 20-minute walk from major tourist spots like the world-renowned Ginza shopping district, Tsukiji Fish Market and Hamarikyu Gardens.

Heading to Tokyo Bay

Shimbashi station acts as a portal to the Tokyo Bayside area via its connection to the water-crossing Yurikamome line. Shimbashi is the starting point for this line, which is one of the most scenic in Tokyo. The view is enough to get on this line, but it also allows for easy access to more popular tourist entertainment and shopping areas along the bay.

Taking a Yurikamome line tour to places like Odaiba, the Rainbow Bridge, Tokyo Big Site and the Lalaport shopping areas allows for great photos of landmarks like Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree. If the view is beautiful in the day, then it’s spectacular at night.
