Habushiura Beach is just right for a weekend getaway.
Located on the east side of Niijima, of the Izu Islands in Shizuoka Prefecture, its clear water and quality waves make it one of the top surfing and fishing spots in Japan.
The Izu Islands have always been a getaway destination for Kanto-area people seeking to escape from city life. The islands have a ton of coastline with 100 small islands, out of which nine are populated.

Surfers paradise
Habushiura beach is one of the most popular locations in the area.
It features white sand that stretches more than six kilometers along the shore, carrying a whiff of Hawaiian north-shore vibes. The view is so splendid, it is listed among the Shin Tokyo Hyakkei (100 Views of New Tokyo), a series of highly recommended scenery that can be found in Tokyo and surrounding areas.
Surfing is the central activity that can be enjoyed at Habushiura beach. But, even if you don’t partake in water sports, you can still be entertained watching world-famous surfers at the professional surfing tournament held here annually.
Although it may be crowded in the summer, there is a lot to do on the island. For more than just lounging on the beach and taking in the view, try Izu Marine sports, an onsen (natural hot spring bath), gourmet seafood dining and going to dormant volcanoes.
Whatever you reason for traveling to the island, you’ll be greeted by brilliant beaches and striking views.
